Information



The School . . . .

B.D.A. is dedicated to the training of dancers in Classical Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Stage, Modern and Hip Hop, with the main focus on ballet as it is the basis of all dance. The ballet curriculum follows the syllabi of the Royal Academy of Dance, with yearly examinations for students aged six years and older.

Members of the faculty are Sharon Boswell, Lacey Clarke, Lauren Nottingham, Paula Riddell, Julia Colton, Kathryn Carlberg, Rebecca Munroe, Mikayla Fansega and Michelle Bedry. 

It is our aim to encourage and help each student in doing their very best and to achieve their goals, to develop poise, confidence, discipline as well as a love for the art of dance.



Exams . . . .

R.A.D. children's exams are held in the spring usually in the month of April. Vocational exams are held either in the early Spring or late Fall. All candidates are examined by an examiner of the Royal Academy of Dance. In order to adequately prepare for these exams, students are required to attend a minimum number of lessons per week.

Primary 1 hour a week
Grades 1 - 2 2 hours a week (attending twice a week)
Grades 3 - 5 2.25 - 2.5 hours a week (attending twice a week)

Intermediate - Advanced 

3 or more hours a week *
* Senior students can attend extra technique classes



Festivals / Competitions . . . .

Takes place during the months of March through May, coaching starts before November. There are separate fees for the coaching sessions. Students are entered at the discretion of the teacher and must meet the criteria to compete. A strong technique, style/quality, stage presence and commitment level are among the basic requirements. Students interested should apply by September 30th. 



Showtime  . . . .

All students of B.D.A. will be performing in the annual production held at the end of June at the Michael J. Fox Theatre in Burnaby. A costume is required for each show routine with the average cost running between $45.00 and $60.00 per costume. Measurements for all students and costume billing occur in the 2nd Quarter / early Dec. Detailed information is given as we approach recital time.

We will be closed on the following holidays:

  • Thanksgiving Day 
  • Remembrance Day
  • Christmas Break 
  • Spring Break
  • Easter break 
  • Summer Break - last day is Recital Day - Sun, June 24th, 2012.
